Atalanta Cruise Past Venezia to Keep Pressure On at the Top

Atalanta made a statement on Monday, dispatching Venezia 3-1 at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo in what was a thoroughly convincing Serie A performance. The Bergamo side were in control for large stretches of the contest and left no doubt about the gulf in quality between the two sides on the day.

For Venezia, the defeat is a sobering reminder of the challenges that await a promoted side in the top flight. Conceding three goals away from home leaves them with plenty to address, though they will take some small comfort from finding the net themselves and avoiding a shutout.

Atalanta, by contrast, will take enormous confidence from the result. Gian Piero Gasperini's side have consistently punched above their weight in Serie A in recent seasons, and a home win of this margin sends a clear signal to the clubs above and below them in the standings.

With the international break now behind the clubs and the domestic calendar picking back up, Atalanta will look to build momentum from this performance. Three points at home against a struggling opponent is exactly the kind of result that shapes a title challenge or a European push over the course of a long season.
