Genoa Sink Fiorentina to Claim Precious Three Points at Ferraris

Genoa claimed all three points in Saturday's Serie A fixture, beating Fiorentina 2-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genova. It was a result that will lift spirits on the Ligurian coast and apply pressure to a Fiorentina side that will feel the afternoon slipped away from them.

The Viola arrived in Genova with ambitions of their own, and they made a contest of it, pulling a goal back to set up a nervy finish. Ultimately, however, Genoa held firm to secure the win and send their supporters home satisfied.

For Genoa, the victory is the kind of home performance that can shift momentum over the course of a long Serie A season. Three points against a side of Fiorentina's quality carry real weight in a division where the standings can change dramatically from week to week.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly. A road defeat is never ideal, and dropping points to a direct rival in the table makes the coming fixtures all the more important for Alberto Palladino's men as they look to reassert themselves in the upper half of the division.
