Spurs Climb Off the Bottom With First Win of the Season Against Coventry
· 2 min read
Tottenham Hotspur picked up their first Premier League victory of the 2026-27 season on Monday, defeating Coventry City 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London to finally drag themselves off the foot of the table.
It was a result Spurs desperately needed. Having endured a difficult opening to the campaign, the pressure had been mounting on the squad and coaching staff alike, with supporters growing increasingly anxious after a string of disappointing outings. A home fixture against Coventry arrived at just the right time.
Coventry, for their part, made it competitive enough to keep the home crowd on edge for spells, pulling a goal back to make it a contest, but Tottenham ultimately had too much on the day and saw the game out with a two-goal cushion.
The three points will do wonders for confidence at Spurs, lifting them out of the relegation zone and giving the dressing room something to build on. For Coventry, the defeat is a setback, but there is still plenty of season remaining to find their footing in the top flight.
With just one match played on this Premier League Monday, all eyes will now turn to the midweek fixtures as clubs across the division look to stake their own claims further up the standings.
