Seattle Sounders FC picked up a crucial three points on Friday night, defeating Sporting Kansas City 2–1 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington. It was the kind of gritty home win that can define a team's late-season fortunes.
Sporting Kansas City pushed back and pulled one goal back, ensuring a nervy finish in the Pacific Northwest. The visitors gave Seattle plenty to think about, but the Sounders held firm when it mattered most.
For Seattle, the victory is a timely boost as the MLS regular season enters its final stretch. Every point carries heightened weight at this stage of the calendar, and home form will be critical for any side eyeing a deep playoff run.
Sporting Kansas City, meanwhile, will be frustrated to leave Seattle empty-handed. A single goal was not enough to salvage anything from the trip, and their own postseason ambitions may take a hit as a result.
With the playoff picture tightening across the Western Conference, Friday's result at Lumen Field could prove to be a significant three points come the end of the regular season.
