Sounders Shut Out Real Salt Lake to Keep Playoff Push Rolling
· 2 min read
Seattle Sounders FC made a statement on home soil on September 24, defeating Real Salt Lake 2-0 at Lumen Field in Seattle to strengthen their position in the Western Conference standings.
The clean sheet was a particular highlight for the Sounders, who were resolute and organized throughout, giving Real Salt Lake little room to breathe and nothing to show for their efforts on the scoreboard.
For Real Salt Lake, the result is a setback in what remains a competitive Western Conference race, where points are at a premium as the playoff picture continues to take shape in the final stretch of the regular season.
The Sounders, a club that has historically thrived under postseason pressure, will take significant confidence from a disciplined and decisive home performance. Lumen Field once again proved a difficult destination for visiting sides.
With the MLS playoffs drawing closer, Thursday's result could prove meaningful in the final standings. Seattle will look to build on the momentum, while Real Salt Lake must regroup quickly if they are to secure their own postseason berth.
