Revolution Stun NYCFC as MLS Delivers a Wild Thursday Night
· 3 min read
Thursday night delivered a full slate of MLS action, and the results were anything but predictable. The New England Revolution made the long trip to Citi Field in New York and left with all three points, defeating New York City FC 2-1 in one of the evening's headline results. For NYCFC, it was a frustrating home defeat that will do their playoff positioning no favors.
Out west, LAFC kept the pressure on at the top of the table with a commanding 2-0 victory over Red Bull New York at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Vancouver Whitecaps produced the most emphatic result of the night, dismantling LA Galaxy 3-0 at BC Place to deal a significant blow to their cross-state rivals' postseason hopes.
In San Diego, the night's most breathless contest saw the San Jose Earthquakes edge San Diego FC 3-2 at Snapdragon Stadium in a five-goal thriller. FC Dallas also returned from Allianz Field in Saint Paul with three points, defeating Minnesota United 2-1, while Houston Dynamo claimed a 2-1 home win over Real Salt Lake at Shell Energy Stadium.
The draws were plentiful too. Austin FC and Colorado Rapids played out a 1-1 stalemate at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Chicago Fire FC and Inter Miami CF could not be separated at Soldier Field, and Portland Timbers and St. Louis CITY SC shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Providence Park. With the playoff picture tightening across both conferences, every point dropped will be scrutinized in the weeks ahead.
