Betis Edge Getafe While Villarreal Cruise Past Malaga
· 2 min read
Real Betis made it a winning day at the Estadio Benito Villamarín in Sevilla, seeing off a stubborn Getafe side by a single goal. The narrow margin tells its own story: Getafe arrived organized and difficult to break down, as they so often are, and Betis had to work hard for all three points.
The result will be warmly welcomed in the Betis camp, as home wins against defensively disciplined opponents are exactly the kind of results that build momentum over the course of a long La Liga season. Getafe, for their part, will feel aggrieved to leave empty-handed after making life uncomfortable for their hosts throughout.
The day's more expansive scoreline came from La Rosaleda in Malaga, where Villarreal ran out comfortable 3-1 winners against the hosts. The Yellow Submarine were impressive in their efficiency, putting the game to bed with authority while Malaga managed only a consolation to show for their efforts.
Villarreal's win is a statement of intent and will move them up the table, while Malaga face an uphill battle as they look to find their feet. Two very different afternoons for the home sides, then, but La Liga's early-season picture is beginning to take shape.
